On Tuesday, NACWA sent our FY17 Appropriations Request letter  to Capitol Hill. NACWA was joined this year by nine other water and municipal organizations, resulting in a strong coalition of support for federal investment in water. In addition to requesting that Members of Congress support the SRFs, the request advocates for funding for Integrated Planning, WIFIA, and Title XVI.

Between the ongoing drought and water crises around the country, water has become a more salient topic than usual here in D.C. In light of these circumstances and considering the ill-advised cuts to the Clean Water SRF which the Administration proposed for FY17 – a cut of $414 million in one year – now is a key time for clean water agencies around the U.S. to reach out to their federal representatives.

NACWA has prepared a template letter (available as a Word document here) which we encourage NACWA members to amend and email their Senate and House Representatives. We urge stakeholders to begin contacting their Representatives today to encourage them to support these programs. You can look up your Members of Congress at house.gov and senate.gov. Please also feel free to share this information with other utilities you may be in touch with who are not members of NACWA – all outreach helps!

By submitting a letter within the next week, you can help build on the NACWA coalition request submitted this week – and tee-up a clean water conversation with Congressional offices which we hope you will continue during the 2016 Policy Forum and Fly-In coming up in April.
