2014 NWPF - Green Meeting

Protecting our shared environment and the planet is of fundamental importance to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), the Water Environment Federation (WEF), the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) and its members. To support this common goal, we are working together with the Capital Hilton, to make sure that the 2014 National Water Policy Forum & Fly-In is an environmentally friendly experience.  Please see our efforts below:

 

Meeting Materials

• We have significantly reduced printed materials for conferences, and print only what is necessary to the success of the conference.
• Materials that are printed for our meetings are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper that is made with a minimum of 10% post-consumer waste.
• All Signage is made from reusable materials.  The Sponsorship Bio-Banner is made from a new revolutionary biodegradable PVC material.  When placed in a landfill, the Bio-Banner will literally vanish within 3-5 years unlike other vinyl banners that remain unchanged for decades.
• The sponsored Key Cards are made from a minimum of 20% hotel post consumer plastic.

 

Recycling of Materials

• Recycling bins are provided in meeting rooms, guest rooms and at breaks.
• Following the conclusion of the meeting, be sure to stop by the registration desk to drop off your badge and lanyard – we strive to recycle as many meeting materials as possible.

 

Other NACWA Meeting Policies

• We offer tap water at our conferences, so that we can all enjoy the product of our members’ labors and reduce waste.

 

Capital Hilton Hotel Environmental Policies

 
Recycling:

• There is a cardboard compactor on property and recycling bins throughout all hotel offices.  
• The Restaurant & Kitchen only use recycled-material containers.
• All bottles, cans, fluorescent bulbs, acid and rechargeable batteries, used oils and paints, metals/equipment, computer components, ballasts and plastics are recycled.
• The kitchen has decreased the use of disposable cup and dishes and serves condiments in bulk to reduce waste.
• Collection stations in Accounting areas for confidential/non-confidential shredding

Water & Energy conservation:

• The hotel maintains guest space temperature and maximizes the use of free cooling capacity with an air and plate exchanger.
• Energy Audits are performed overnight and occupancy sensor controls and energy efficient & CFL light bulbs have been installed for lighting efficiency.  
• There is an Energy Management System for Public Space AC/Heating system.
• The property only uses low consumption shower heads, faucet aerators and toilets.
• Automatic flush valves, faucets and soap dispensers are in all public restrooms.
• The landscape irrigation is on timers to reduce excess watering.

Housekeeping:

• There is an in-house laundry and worn out linen are used as rags.
• Guests can opt-in the Reuse Linen and Towel Program.
• They use colored linen in catering to reduce cleaning chemicals & water temps in laundry.
• All the cleaning supplies are environmentally friendly and purchased in bulk; they are also dispensed in reusable non-aerosol containers.
