2010 LAW SEMINAR
Developments in Clean Water Law:
A Seminar for Public Agency Attorneys and Managers
November 17 - 19, 2010, Inn at Loretto, Santa Fe, New Mexico

NACWA’s 2010 Developments in Clean Water Law Seminar promises to offer an informative exploration of the hottest topics in clean water law and will feature many top  clean water law  attorneys from across the nation as speakers. Taking place in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico, this year’s Seminar is set to deliver an engaging and educational program.  NACWA’s Law Seminar is the only one of its kind and has become an indispensable tool for clean water practitioners – both for public agency attorneys and managers alike – due to its thorough examination of timely legal and regulatory challenges facing the clean water community.

Don’t Miss Out on These Compelling Presentations and Critical Insights

As clean water and stormwater utilities are facing one of the most complex legal and regulatory climates in recent memory, the NACWA Law Seminar can provide both clean water lawyers and utility managers with the critical insights necessary to navigate the complex series of current legal and regulatory issues.  Among the subjects to be addressed during the Seminar are the host of new regulations involving nutrients, sanitary sewer system collections issues, and stormwater issues that are now emerging from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  All of these regulations will present unique challenges for clean water and stormwater utilities, and the Seminar will explore the legal ramifications of these new rules and requirements – including how utilities can adapt to the new regulatory framework.

Another topic that will receive substantial attention is a review of recent trends involving wet weather consent decrees.  The examination of these trends will include recent decrees that have been negotiated by NACWA member agencies and how the terms of these decrees may impact other cities.  Tied to the discussion of consent decrees will be an analysis of affordability issues as they relate to clean water permitting and enforcement, particularly at a time when utilities are facing a host of other Clean Water Act requirements and mandates.  The Seminar will also include a review of the most important Clean Water Act legal cases of the past year; a discussion of regional developments in areas like the Chesapeake Bay and the Great Lakes that could have national implications; and an examination of current enforcement trends.

Continuing Legal Education Credits Offered

As in past years, Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits icon-pdf will be available, including ethics credits.  A list of states applied to for CLE is now available and will be updated as CLE approvals are received.  Additional details on the Seminar, including a preliminary agenda, registration and hotel information, are also available.  Hotel reservations must be made by October 15 to receive the discounted conference rate.    Be sure to join your clean water colleagues for this important and exciting event!
