October 23, 2008 The Water Sector Coordinating Council (WSCC) and its government partners have launched a voluntary reporting tool to measure the progress of drinking water and wastewater systems in improving their “all hazards” security posture. All water and wastewater systems in the nation are urged to participate. The information collected will be essential in assuring federal legislators and regulators that the water sector is active and vigilant in securing its critical infrastructure.
NACWA is requesting that members complete the anonymous reporting by visiting http://water-sector-progress.org/ and answering the 22 questions by October 23, 2008. Please contact Cynthia Finley at 202/296-9836 or

Reporting Results Will Demonstrate Security Progress, Support ImprovementsThe water sector security reporting tool contains the 22 measures that were developed by the Critical Infrastructure Partnership Advisory Council (CIPAC) Metrics Workgroup, comprised of representatives from the water sector associations, including NACWA, government agencies, and water and wastewater utilities. The measures support the goals and objectives of the national Water Sector Specific Plan (Water SSP) and include the following types of measures for drinking water and wastewater utilities:
To ensure that the sector’s data will be safeguarded, the WSCC has asked WaterISAC (the operational arm of the sector) to secure all submitted responses. All utilities are encouraged to take part in this voluntary initiative, regardless of their size, type, or WaterISAC affiliation. The reporting tool can be accessed at http://water-sector-progress.org/, and utilities are asked to complete their reporting by October 23, 2008. Utilities will complete the measures reporting anonymously, and the information collected through the tool will be reported to the sector in an aggregated format. The water sector is the first of the nation’s 18 critical infrastructure sectors to develop this type of measures performance tool, demonstrating the sector’s commitment to security and emergency preparedness at water and wastewater utilities. The results of the measures survey will be used in the advocacy efforts of NACWA and the other water sector associations to highlight security progress to date and support continuous improvement in the water sector. |
Membership gives you access to the tools to keep you up to date on legislative, regulatory, legal and management initiatives.
