Please contact your Members of Congress and urge them to sign on to the House “Dear Colleague” letter in support of President Obama’s budget request of $2.4 billion for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) in the Fiscal Year 2010 proposed budget. The letter is being sponsored by Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) and Congressman Tim Bishop (D-NY) and is available by clicking here . The deadline for signing the letter is April 1st.

Less than two weeks ago, the House passed the Water Quality Investment Act (H.R. 1262) to renew our nation’s commitment to clean water. The letter sponsored by Congresswoman Johnson and Congressman Bishop builds on that commitment by urging House Appropriators to fund the CWSRF at the President’s recommended level of $2.4 billion. With an estimated $390 billion backlog in water infrastructure needs, CBO estimates we must make an investment of between $13 billion and $20.9 billion in wastewater treatment annually. Without significant investment in our water infrastructure, our nation could face a reversal of the gains we have enjoyed since the passage of the Clean Water Act in 1972. President Obama’s request of $2.4 billion for the CWSRF goes a long way toward reducing our nation’s infrastructure backlog and putting our nation on the right path for maintaining our nation’s commitment to clean water. It is also an important step toward achieving a permanent federal partnership for clean water investments.

Please contact your Members of Congress to support the President Obama’s funding request by signing on to the Johnson/Bishop letter TODAY. The deadline for signing the letter is April 1st.
