Action Please By The election of NACWA Board Members takes place each year at the Association’s July Annual Meeting. This year, Board seats in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10 are either open due to resignation or expiration of eligibility, or are slated for re-election. Candidates for Board of Directors vacancies are being solicited via this Member Update. The Board Members up for re-election and the available vacant seats are as follows:
EligibilityIt is the objective of NACWA’s Board of Directors that the Association’s leadership reflects diversity with regard to sex, race and national origin. Any individual, designated as the Member Agency's representative to the Association, is eligible for election to the Board of Directors.
Factors for ConsiderationIncluded among the factors to be considered when placing your name, or that of another Member Agency representative, into nomination are the history of the member agency’s active participation in NACWA activities; the ability, both in terms of schedule and financial capability, of the nominee to travel (NACWA’s Board meets four times a year); the role of the member agency’s federal elected officials in the national legislative process; and, whether the nominee is representative of geographical diversity within the Region. Please also note the following specific duties and responsibilities of the Board as you consider potential nominees:
Nomination ProcessIn order to be considered by the Nominating Committee, nominees for re-election or election to vacant seats must personally express a willingness to serve and have a minimum of two NACWA members from their region support their nomination in writing (e-mail is acceptable). Thus, an individual desiring to be on the Board may place their name into nomination, but must also solicit the support of two other member agencies from their region. If, as a result of nominations, there are two or more members from a region meeting the qualifications, the Nominating Committee will oversee a vote of regional NACWA members. The Committee will report nominations to the entire membership for election at the Annual Business Meeting in Cleveland, Ohio in July.
The Role of the Nominating (Directors) CommitteeThe role of the Nominating (Directors) Committee is to actively solicit nominations for new regional, at-large, or vacant Board seats; certify the eligibility of the nominated candidates; and subsequently nominate member agency representatives for appointment or election to the Board. Please forward a copy of your nominations to both Patricia Cleveland, Chair of the Nominating (Directors) Committee, and Ken Kirk, NACWA’s Executive Director, no later than Tuesday, June 12, 2007.
For your information, a list of the current Board of Directors, with members of the Nominating (Directors) Committee noted, is attached, in addition to a list of NACWA’s membership grouped by region. If you need additional information or assistance, please contact Patricia Cleveland, Nominating Committee Chair, at 817/493-5137 or Ken Kirk, Executive Director at 202/833-4653. NACWA expresses its sincere thanks and appreciation to its outgoing Board Members. Thank you in advance for your interest in NACWA leadership.
