Green Meeting

Protecting our shared environment and the planet is of fundamental importance to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), the Water Environment Federation (WEF), the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF), WateReuse and its members. To support this common goal, we are working together with the Westin Washington DC City Center, to make sure that the 2015 National Water Policy Forum, Fly-In & Expo is an environmentally friendly experience. Our green meeting strategy aims to lighten our environmental impact by:

Meeting Materials

  • NACWA has significantly reduced printed materials for conferences, and print only what is necessary to the success of the conference.
  • Materials that are printed for our meetings are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper that is made with a minimum of 10% post-consumer waste.
  • All Signage is made from reusable materials.  The Sponsorship Bio-Banner is made from the new revolutionary biodegradable PVC material.  When placed in a landfill, the Bio-Banner will literally vanish within 3-5 years unlike other vinyl banners that remain unchanged for decades.

Recycling of Materials

  • Recycling bins are provided in meeting rooms, guest rooms and at breaks.
  • Following the conclusion of the meeting, be sure to stop by the registration desk to drop off your badge and lanyard – we strive to recycle as many meeting materials as possible.

Other Meeting Policies

  • The Hotel recycles Plastic, Cardboard, Aluminum Cans, Office Paper, Steel Cans, Newspapers, Magazines, Ink Cartridges and Toner, Refrigerators, Hot Water Heaters, Appliances, Rose Hot Water Temperature in Boiler and Lowered Chemical Use as well as kitchen grease.
  • Recycling bins are provided throughout guest spaces, such as guest floors and pool area.
  • Following the conclusion of the meeting, be sure to stop by the registration desk to drop off your badge – we strive to recycle and reuse as many meeting materials as possible.
  • We offers tap water at our conferences, so that we can all enjoy the product of our member’s labors and reduce waste.

Westin Washington DC City Center Environmental Policies

  • The Hotel has created a Living Wall in the lobby to help promote clean air throughout the hotel.
  • Lox Flow Toilets and Waterfall Shower Heads in guest rooms as well as automatic sinks and toilets in public spaces have been installed to reduce water usage.
  • Westin’s new “Clutter Free Work Station” eliminates waste in meetings spaces by having a table in the room with pads, pens, water and mints vs. having them on tables throughout the space to cut down on unneeded usage.
  • Make a Green Choice Program:  If you opt-in the program, housekeeping services will not be available for the day. Please note this includes all room cleaning and coffee & bathroom amenities will not be automatically replenished. If you opt out of the program, but still want to conserve water and energy, you can hang your towels you want to reuse and place your door hanger on the nightstand to reuse your bed linens. The bed(s) will be made. For fresh towels, please leave them on the floor. For fresh linens, please leave the door hanger on the bed.
