NACWA Launches New Legislative & Regulatory Tracking Tool: State Action Track

Reference: AA 13-17

NACWA is pleased to introduce State Action Track, a web-based tool that allows members to search and track regulations and bills across a variety of clean water topics by state. Launched today, State Action Track adds to the Association’s suite of member benefits in a unique way – giving members easy-to-use access to those legislative and regulatory developments that affect them the most. Not only is the tool a value-added experience for members, State Action Track demonstrates NACWA’s commitment to increasing state and regional collaboration by enhancing our ability to monitor state and regional issues and inform our effective federal advocacy.

sat logoState Action Track is really two tools, one that tracks state legislation and the other, state regulation. It provides real-time reports of bills (or regulations, respectively) by state and by issue. Users can also search Federal bills and regulations. Currently the tool provides a broad array of clean water searches, including issues like biosolids, green infrastructure, funding, nutrients, energy, resiliency and TMDLs. State Action Track is available to all Member Agency staff and could be a useful tool for utility executives, government affairs personnel, and operations staff. State Action Track is a one-stop-shop for clean water regulatory and legislative issues pertinent to utilities – and expands the Association’s ability to have their ‘finger on the pulse’ of state issues.

Development of the tool is the most recent in a series of efforts by NACWA to be informed and engaged in state and regional clean water issues. Over the last year, the Association has hosted Integrated Planning Workshops in six U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regions that brought together utilities and regulators. Many were co-hosted with state advocacy groups like Oregon Association of Clean Water Agencies (ORACWA) or New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA). NACWA continues to send staff and members to speak at conferences hosted by clean water advocates around the nation, including meetings in California, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky, to name a few. The Association’s bimonthly Clean Water Exchange is distributed to state and regional groups to inform them of NACWA’s federal advocacy initiatives and garner feedback from their membership. A formal coalition of state and regional associations and NACWA is also being developed to further enhance our shared positions on issues and leverage our combined advocacy efforts.
