2013 Summer Conference

Green Meeting

Protecting our shared environment and the planet is of fundamental importance to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and its members. To support this common goal, the Association and the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, are working together to make sure that the 2013 Summer Conference is an environmentally friendly experience by:

Meeting Materials

  • NACWA has significantly reduced printed materials for conferences, and prints only what is necessary to the success of the conference.  All information on the conference is available at www.nacwa.org/13summer.
  • Materials that are printed for our meetings are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper that is made with a minimum of 10% post consumer waste.
  • NACWA lanyards are made from 100% post consumer plastic, mostly plastic bottles.  The badge holders are not only reusable, but they also have a special additive in the PVC allowing them to be fully biodegradable with zero toxic residue.  They are ASTM tested safe for commercial and home compost allowing for less landfill impact.
  • The sponsored Key Cards are made from a minimum of 20% hotel post consumer plastic.
  • All NACWA Signage is made from reusable materials.  The NACWA Sponsorship Bio-Banner is made from the new revolutionary biodegradable PVC material.  When placed in a landfill, the Bio-Banner will literally vanish within 3-5 years unlike other vinyl banners that remain unchanged for decades.

Recycling of Materials

  • Recycling bins for bottles, paper, aluminum and glass are available in the hotel throughout meeting rooms, guest rooms and at breaks.
  • Following the conclusion of the meeting, be sure to stop by NACWA’s registration desk to drop off your badge and lanyard – NACWA strives to recycle and reuse as many meeting materials as possible

Other NACWA Meeting Policies

  • NACWA offers tap water at our conferences, so that we can all enjoy the product of our member’s labors and reduce waste.

Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza Hotel Environmental Policies

  • Banquet Events use eco-friendly sternos for events, and bulk dispensers for beverage stations.
  • Employees are trained on green initiatives and offered a shuttle service, which cuts transportation emissions.
  • Hilton Hotels and Resorts has a partnership with the Global Soap Project, and is sending one million bars of filtered leftover soap to vulnerable countries.  Other guestroom bath producets are donated to local shelters.
  • The hotel catering department and restaurants use an on-property herb garden and beehive for their cooking needs; other products are purchased locally, including produce from the Executive Chef’s own farm.  Leftover food is donated to a local food bank, and organic food waste is composted.
  • A linen re-use program is practiced in the hotel, as well as energy efficient lighting and climate control policy for energy conservation.
  • The hotel recycles cardboard, and offers electronic bill and guest reservation confirmation delivery as well as a paperless delivery of internal documents such as weekly paychecks.
  • All pens and notepads are made from recycled materials, and the hotel uses Bic Stic Ecosolution products in all meeting and guest rooms
