NACWA’s 2012 Winter Conference:
Watershed Moment in the Making...
Conquering the Challenges of the New Regulatory Frontier

February 12 – 15, 2012

Green Meeting

Protecting our shared environment and the planet is of fundamental importance to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and its members. To support this common goal, the Association and the Green Team at the Francis Marion Hotel, are working together to make sure that the 2012 Winter Conference is an environmentally friendly experience by:

Meeting Materials

  • NACWA has significantly reduced printed materials for conferences, and prints only what is necessary to the success of the conference.
  • Materials that are printed for our meetings are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper that is made with a minimum of 10% post consumer waste, and printed with soy based inks.
  • NACWA lanyards are made from 100% post consumer plastic, mostly plastic bottles.  The badge holders are not only reusable, but they also have a special additive in the PVC allowing them to be fully biodegradable with zero toxic residue.  They are ASTM tested safe for commercial and home compost allowing for less landfill impact.
  • The sponsored Key Cards are made from a minimum of 20% hotel post consumer plastic.

Recycling of Materials

  • Recycling paper and co-mingle bins will be provided in meeting rooms and at breaks.
  • Following the conclusion of the meeting, be sure to stop by NACWA’s registration desk to drop off your badge and lanyard – NACWA strives to recycle as many meeting materials as possible.

Other NACWA Meeting Policies

  • NACWA offers only tap water at our conferences, so that we can all enjoy the product of our member’s labors and reduce waste.

The Omni Los Angeles Hotel Environmental Policies

  • The hotel uses FSC certifies or recycled paper goods.
  • Recycling bins for plastic bottles, paper and glass are available.
  • Energy efficient systems are being installed in all new buildings as well as renovated properties. All laundry processed have been converted to ecologically-friendly, energy efficient methods.
  • The hotel offers leftover and excess food items to local food banks and shelters.
  • The Omni Los Angeles Hotel offers a “farm to table” approach, purchasing local, organic, Fair Trade and sustainable food products whenever possible and reducing their carbon footprint.
  • Omni hotels are in the process of creating green roofs.
  • The Hotel utilizes an onsite herb and vegetable garden with native plants.
