The election of NACWA Board Members takes place each year at the July Annual Association Business Meeting. This year, new and existing Board seats in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are available or slated for re-election. There is also an At-Large Seat pending re-appointment. Candidates for Board of Directors vacancies are being solicited via this Member Update. The Board Members up for re-election or re-appointment, and the available/new seats, are as follows:
*While nominees are being sought for the available and new Board seats shown with an asterisk (*), the election of individuals to fill these seats is pending membership approval of a Board-endorsed amendment to NACWA’s Bylaws. The proposed Bylaws amendment establishes that each region is entitled to three Board seats, irrespective of the number of Member Agencies in a particular region. The vote on the Bylaws amendment will precede the Election of Directors at the Annual Association Business Meeting on July 20, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois.
EligibilityIt is the objective of NACWA’s Board of Directors that the Association’s leadership reflects diversity with regard to sex, race and national origin. Any individual designated as the Member Agency's representative to the Association is eligible for election to the Board of Directors.
Factors for ConsiderationIncluded among the factors to be considered when placing your name, or that of another Member Agency representative, into nomination are the history of the Member Agency’s active participation in NACWA activities; the ability, both in terms of schedule and financial capability, of the nominee to travel (NACWA’s Board meets four times a year); the role of the member agency’s federal elected officials in the national legislative process; and, whether the nominee is representative of geographical diversity within the Region. Please also note the following specific duties and responsibilities of the Board as you consider potential nominees:
Nomination ProcessIn order to be considered by NACWA’s Nominating Committee (Directors), nominees for re-election or election to available or new Board seats must personally express a willingness to serve and have a minimum of two NACWA members from their region support their nomination in writing (e-mail is acceptable). Thus, an individual desiring to be on the Board may place their name into nomination, but must also solicit the support of two other member agencies from their region. If, as a result of nominations, there are two or more members from a region meeting the qualifications, the Nominating Committee will oversee a vote of regional NACWA members. The Committee will report nominations to the entire membership for election at the Association’s Annual Business Meeting in Chicago, Illinois in July. Sitting Board Members may be re-appointed to At-Large seats at the end of their terms.
Nominating Individuals to the NACWA BoardTo be considered for new or continuing service on NACWA’s Board of Directors, please forward 1) a personal expression of your willingness to serve; and, 2) supporting written communications from a minimum of two NACWA members from your region (e-mail is acceptable) to both Patricia Cleveland, Chair of the Nominating Committee (Directors), and Ken Kirk, NACWA’s Executive Director, no later than Friday, June 10, 2011. Patricia Cleveland, Assistant Regional Manager
Ken Kirk, Executive Director A list of the current Board of Directors is attached, in addition to a list of NACWA’s membership grouped by region.
