Protecting our shared environment and the planet is of fundamental importance to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and its members. To support this common goal, the Association and the Hyatt Regency Miami, are working together to make sure that the 2013 Winter Conference is an environmentally friendly experience by:

 

Meeting Materials

  • NACWA has significantly reduced printed materials for conferences, and print only what is necessary to the success of the conference.
  • Materials that are printed for our meetings are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper that is made with a minimum of 10% post consumer waste, and printed with soy based inks.
  • NACWA lanyards are made from 100% post consumer plastic, mostly plastic bottles.
  • The sponsored Key Cards are made from a minimum of 20% hotel post consumer plastic.

 

Recycling of Materials

  • Recycling paper and co-mingle bins will be provided in meeting rooms and at breaks.
  • Following the conclusion of the meeting, be sure to stop by NACWA’s registration desk to drop off your badge and lanyard – NACWA strives to recycle as many meeting materials as possible.

 

Other NACWA Meeting Policies

  • NACWA offers only tap water at our conferences; so that we can all enjoy the product of our member’s labors and reduce waste.

 

Hyatt Regency Miami Environmental Policies

  • Office and copy paper is of 50% post consumer recycled content.
  • The Hotel has low flow 1.28 gallon flush toilets in the bathrooms, low flow faucets showerheads.  In the public restrooms, in addition to the low flow fixtures, the faucets and the toilets have sensors. 
  • The Hotel’s recycling program includes paper, corrugated cardboard, plastic, glass, light bulbs, and batteries.  Ink and toner cartridges are also recycled.
  • The Hotel has instituted source reduction activities such as bulk purchasing and reduce packaging.
  • Plasticware nor Styrofoam is used in the employee cafeteria.  
  • In terms of Clean Water Practices, environmental preferable cleaners are used as well as high efficiency air filters with a Minimum Efficiency Rating Value (MERVE) of 8 or less.
  • A Towel & Linen Program is practiced in the hotel, allowing guests to reuse their towels and linens based on their preference. 
  • There is energy efficient compact fluorescent lighting in all service and back of the house areas and guest rooms as well as indoor and outdoor sensor lighting.  There are also programmable thermostats, and Energy Star-rated equipments.
  • Water efficient washing machines have been installed for clothes and linen washing.
