Protecting our shared environment and the planet is of fundamental importance to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and its members. To support this common goal, the Association and the Fairmont Washington D.C. are working together to make sure that the Money Matters Summit & Fly-In is an environmentally friendly experience by:

Meeting Materials

  • NACWA has significantly reduced printed materials for conferences, and print only what is necessary to the success of the summit.
  • Printed meeting materials are printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper that is made with a minimum of 10 % post consumer waste, and printed with soy based inks.
  • NACWA lanyards are made from 100% post consumer plastic, mostly plastic bottles.

Recycling of Materials

  • Recycling bins will be provided in meeting rooms.
  • Following the conclusion of the summit, be sure to stop by NACWA’s registration desk to drop off your badge and lanyard – NACWA strives to recycle as many meeting materials as possible.

Other NACWA Meeting Policies

  • NACWA offers only tap water at our conferences, so that we can all enjoy the product of our member’s labors and reduce waste.

Fairmont Washington D.C. Environmental Policies

  • Energy efficient lighting and dimmers have been installed in all meeting rooms and administrative offices.  Compact fluorescent bulbs are used wherever possible.  Pepco Energy Services supplies the Hotel with 3 million kilowatt hours of electricity generated from renewable resources.
  • The Hotel practices a towel re-use program, as well as recycles plastic, paper, glass, batteries, aluminum, grease and cardboard.
  • The Hotel has introduced an Energy and Carbon Management Program in support of the Fairmont’s Climate Change Strategy.  This program allows the guests to monitor, track and report their progress toward achieving significant CO2 reductions.
  • All bathroom and kitchen fixtures in the Hotel have been converted to water saving devices such as low flow sinks and toilets and water efficient shower heads.
  • The hotel has partnered with Keys for the Homeless, and donates recycled bath amenities and gently used bed linens to those in need.
  • The Fairmont Washington D.C. purchases local, organic, Fair Trade and sustainable food products whenever possible.  The Hotel utilizes organic or biodynamic wines, an onsite herb and vegetable garden, rooftop honey bees, and has an organic cocktail menu.
  • All Hotel information is available on the internet in order to reduce paper consumption.
  • The Hotel’s hydrocarbon-powered dry cleaning machines have replaced Perc (a toxic chemical) with DF-2000 which is an environmentally-friendly product that doesn’t produce toxic wastes.
